 When God is quiet.

1Kings 19:11-12close1 Kings 19:11-12 11 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. (ESV)   And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Often we look for God in big productions. We look for lightening, thunder, great shaking, but God does not always show Himself to us in these spectacular ways. Often, it is when we quiet ourselves and simply listen for His gentle voice, that we hear great and mighty things from Him.

Now, what about the times when God says nothing at all? You are quietly waiting for Him to speak, and you hear nothing. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe God is provoking your desire for Him.

Someone once said, “Your desire matches your pursuit”. We have become accustom to instant gratification, often temporary, and the bright, loud, shaking of our senses. But in the “instant spectacle”, we often miss the rewards of quiet, diligent pursuit.

So, consider God when He is quiet and even when you don’t hear Him at all. Even in His quietness, God is always speaking.
