MISSIONS AT COTTONWOOD IS…A VERY BIG DEAL!
From Cottonwood’s inception, missions has been extremely important, permeating her church life. In her first organizational meeting, it was decided that 12% of ALL undesignated income (tithes and offerings) would go directly to missions. In addition, those who call Cottonwood their spiritual home are encouraged to personally support missions as well. Some in the church family designate all or some funds for a specific missionary; many just designate their gifts for missions and the missions committee decides the distribution.
For 2009 and 2010, the actual missions distributions from Cottonwood have exceeded $100,000. Each month’s missions’ income and distributions are posted on the missions map at the edge of the foyer. The distribution of undesignated missions’ income is entirely determined by the missions committee. Anything designated by individuals toward specific mission units is forwarded exactly as designated. For more information, please contact Secretary Anne McMorris at 575-430-4106.
The current “missions’ committee” is composed of Secretary Anne McMorris, and members Dorothy Auld, Grace Bagwell, Kathy Hauge, Cindy Lusk, Breanna Nichols, Darrel Renfro, and Mac Renfro. Our lead pastor is the interim chair due to leadership transitions, though he does not normally chair (nor even attend) mission’ committee meeting. Cottonwood usually has an annual missions convention, reporting what the missions units are doing and renewing vision. This is Cottonwood’s current committed monthly support:
